Ah, I love those days. You know, the days where you hear that a big hardware parts manufacturer, such as Intel, AMD, ATI, Nvidia, etc, announces price cuts. That alone makes my day!
Yes, it’s official, Intel are cutting prices on some of their cpu this week.
Here are the price cuts and please note that those are offical Intel prices, actual prices will eventually reach those prices than they will be lower than that.
Q6600 From $224 to $193, which is a 13.84% cut.
E8500 From $266 to $183, which is a 31.20% cut
E8400 From $183 to $163, which is a 10.93% cut
E7200 From $133 to $113, which is a 15.04% cut
While those are great news, for anyone who plans on buying one of those soon, according to two other sources, which are fairly reliable, Intel is also supposed to introduces new models as well, in Q3. New models such as the
Q9650, at 3.00Ghz, 12MB cache, 1333Mhz FSB at $530
Q9400, at 2.66Ghz, 6MB cache, 1333Mhz FSB at $266.
E8600, at 3.33Ghz, 6MB cache, 1333Mhz FSB at $266
E7300, at 2.66Ghz, 3MB cache, 800Mhz 1066Mhz FSB at 133$
Now, that is interesting! Two new top of the line cpus, besides the ridiculously expensive Extreme line-up, the Q9650 and the E8600 are two very interesting chips, that will be of great interest for building high end systems.
Now, of course, let’s not forget the price cuts on other models. The E8500 is now an extremely tempting cpu, probably the hottest deal right now, considering the specs and a $183 price tag. 183$ for one of the best dual-core cpu on the market is simply amazing, I remember a few years ago, when you had to pay $300 and upwards for a high-end cpu.
Of course, what’s even better, is to see how fast those price cuts are passed on to you, unlike oil price cuts.
You can already the price cuts effects, as I’m writing this:
The E8500 from $229.99 to
$199.99 $194.99
The Q6600 from $194.99 to $184.99,
The E8400 from $189.99 to
$179.99 $174.99
The E7200 from $129.99 to $124.99
It’s looking good, return to school prices cuts are officially underway
(Edited as prices went down again and to correct the E7300 FSB)

Newegg already has the E8500 for $194 for the retail packaged CPU.
Don’t forget the Q9550, also the E7300 has a 1066mhz FSB.
“actual prices will eventually reach those prices than they will be lower than that.”
WTF are you trying to say there?
@ Andrew: Thank you, updated that, as well as the E8400.
@ Sass: The Q9550? Haven’t heard of that one. Updated the E7300, my bad.
@ Paco: Sorry if that unclear. What I meant is that prices in stores will reach Intel announced prices and will eventually get lower than that, due to competition.
Mathieu,
Wow, it is really a good news for those who want to upgrade cpu, the price cut is timely consider other things [ price] are going up like fuel, food, etc.
Good information about the purchase of CPU.
hAVE A NICE DAY, BEST WISHES FROM COOLINGSTAR9
