I went in sort of a different direction when I picked out my last vid cardS. I had low budget, but wanted something that would allow me to play games reasonably well. I had 3 open SLI-capable PCIe slots in my motherboard.. So I hunted around for 2 cards with the most capability for the money. I use two monitor often, and also wanted something that would allow me to continue this..yeah, I have to turn OFF SLI for this configuration to function with two monitors (SLI = 1 monitor, always, it teams the cards up for more processing power). While I didn't need it, I bought dual-head cards, which means that each card can run two screens by itself. Now, I know how vid cards work, and understand the priciples of SLI, so I figured I'd SLI 2 cheapie cards together when necessary (Burnout Paradise for example, Crysis or Fear..). I was able to pickup a couple ddr3-based cards, with processors in the 600MHz range - for about $50 ea. I'm very happy with the performance of the cards. My case has a 250mm fan in the side, so cooling isn't an issue for me, in this case. These cheapie cards I found are from Pallit, and they're 8500GT based nvidia cards. I've owned the cards about 2 yrs now, with NO PROBLEMS! Their cooling is sort of a joke, more of a magnet for dust-bunnies, than a cooler, but thats fine..case-fan does the job to keep em cool. About once every 6 months, I have to remove the cards from their slots, and vacuum out the fur-balls (damn pets!). I've just now finally started seeing these cards for cheaper, so I might have found an error when I bought them from newegg. MOST of the cards in this range, have ddr2, 64bit bus width (or slower memory, to put it simply). Once in a while, I'll notice some artifacting, this means time for a clean! This is a rare situation for me..

This was a great article, and I loved the introduction.
I think I'll go w/ the two 4850 configuration.

Also, There is a similar Article for heatsinks. http://www.frostytech.com/top5heatsinks.cfm

Although I find the layout of this allot better.
Great work!

@marcus,

If you want the best card for the money, grab a Radeon HD 4870 X2 They perform just as well as the gtx 295 and sometimes better, and cost less. the GTX 295 is a power hog and isn't as polished.

@D00M - (Shawn in RL),

Got the 3.0 Processor and 2 280's by BFX... had to update the BIOs which as a bit easier than i thought it would be...

Till i got all the updates done it was a bit rough... to be as expected... but seems to be quite nice now...

Guess i solved my own issue...

But thanks again for your Card Review...

Well Mathieu... really nice work you did here putting all the facts out on the resolution issue... seems i like the higher resolutions for my LG 42' Flat i use to game with... just the xfx 9800 gtx's i have in SLI are not enough... At 1920 resolution i get the Black bar of Death on the left margin and further more get The even worse "Blue screen of Death" on exit of Crysis War Head Multiplayer... at least it was happen regularly...

Your post convinces me to upgrade.. gonna go for the big buy...

Yep..

x2 295's...

Will spread your link out to all the guys on our clan and make a effort to repost once i get those cards in.... for a update...

If you wish to visit our site, feel free to drop a line.

I thought that this was a joke when I first saw it.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127401
Be warned: this doesnt have a crossfire bridge which is 10 bucks but 2 of them would still only be 160 with rebate. Not bad.
