  • Hey, if its got AMD and a Radeon ATI card then I am good!

What's the point with AMD-only CPU's? Lame post...
Not that I've anything against AMD. I did use their platform all the way from K6 up untill s939 X2. Just don't expect anyone to take biased post like this seriously...

You clearly didn't read the comment on Digg, where I explain my choice for AMD cpus:

Call me when you all put together an Intel + nVidia combo and then we'll talk.
  • Lynxis
I build and sell systems extremely similar to this for friends and family all the time. My most popular system is basically the $400 system listed here. I cannot build an equivalent system for $400 from Intel. Minimum cost of a dual core C2D system is at least $500 for barebones.

I don't think you understand the reasons behind using AMD on a budget machine right now. AMD cpus are very inexpensive compared to simalar performing Intel parts. Intel knows it has the top products and is asking a very pretty penny for them, keeping them out of "budget gaming systems".

When your talking budget systems, AMD wins hands down right now. Example, the AthlonX2 7750 Kuma processor can be bought for under $60 and it takes a Intel cpu at or above $100 to match it performance wise in games.

    These are great configurations.

i dont know what the guy is saying in relation to Intel+Nvidia

but unless you want to throw extra money away id go with AMD, and even if i had some extra money i would rather put it toward a 10,000rpm raptor HDD which will boost performance far greater then spending an extra 100$ on a cpu.

    ati or nvidia your choice

personally i go with ati especially now due to the super good deals

Do you plan to add the i7 Core 920 configuration gaming rigs in the near future?

I was thinking a i7 Core 920, 4-Gig Ram, 500 Gig HD, MB, PS, matched GPU/GPU (SLI), Antec case (300 or 900). Would love to see your recommendations on a good gaming system for a reasonable price.

    Thanks
  • Mathieu
Yes, for sure I will be adding a i7 920 system in the near future.

I'm currently upgrading/updating all the Gaming PCs and I'll be adding more powerful configurations soon after that.

    Hi,
I am basically just looking to build a computer that can work well with a nice screen I would like to keep it under 1000 the cheaper the better. I like understand each function but not how they interrelate? My computer knowledge is pretty basic. I want to run it on a super high-res monitor but I am not sure if I buy a stock HP computer that it will perform well?

    Dear all,

I would like to buy a ATI 4850 graphic card for gaming, which ATI 4850 brand should i get for gaming ? Here are the list that can be found in my country computer shops.

    Asus 4850
    Gigabyte 4850
    Manli 4850
    Sapphire 4850
    XFX 4850
    HIS 4850

Any different in quality and performance among of all the above listed GC ? Personally my friend recommed me just go for Sapphire 4850, is it okay ?

    Thank you
  • Mathieu
Performance wise, they are all similar, as they are mainly rebranded reference ATI/AMD cards.

What you want to look for is which one offers the best warranty.

I'm not sure for your country, but I know that in the USA, XFX offers a double lifetime warranty, covering you and the buyer if you decide to sell the card in the future.

That warranty covers overclocking and a change of cooler as well.

Double check the warranties and base your decision on that I recommend.

Mathieu, first of all, thank you for these guides. It has to take considerable time to put together. Secondly, I am getting ready to put together a new gaming pc for around $700, and here are some things I would like: a case that has good cable management capability without having to drill holes, and preferably without lights. The computer will be sitting on carpet, so no fans on the bottom. I also need at least 6 usb ports. The monitor I will be using is 1440 x 900. I obviously want the best graphics card I can get for that resolution. I don't have a big interest in overclocking anything....yet.....but would prefer components that leave that option open.

Thanks so much for your time and recommendations!
