A new version of Google’s Web Browser:

A new web browser has emerged recently, from the makers of the most popular search engine, Google. It is called Chrome and has now the version 2.0 has been released. The new version is supposed to bring speed improvement along with many bugs fixes.

When you install chrome it goes through the different stages of installation and gives you the option to import your bookmarks which is useful.

Upon downloading it, I was curious of how it would compare to Mozilla’s Firefox browser and I find that it’s very fast and a lot smoother than Internet Explorer.

I loaded up Hardware Revolution in Chrome and noticed how much faster it totally loaded the page, it was definitely quicker than Firefox. The layout of Chrome may not be to all user’s tastes but it is quite simple once you get used to it, albeit a whole lot different than Internet Explorer.

I haven’t seen a browser as quick as Chrome before and I am very impressed so far. With this release hopefully the bugs that existed in the first release have been ironed out. There’s a feature that allows users to send back crash reports so Google can rectify any problems that may occur to prevent this from occurring in future versions of the browser.

Here’s what I don’t understand though:

Why on earth didn’t they set it by default to have the home button located on the toolbar at the top? This would have made more sense as lots of people use Google as their home page and simply having the home button to bring you back to the search is very easy. It is easy to get the home button on the toolbar though, simply tick the checkbox saying ‘Set home button on toolbar’ and it will appear.

My main concern about Chrome is the lack of extensions and plugins, I hope this will change in the future, if it does I can see Chrome really taking off as people’s default browser of choice.

Conclusion

From my experience, I think Google Chrome is the best web browser right now, because it’s basically faster.

I feel that it loads pages in a different way than Firefox, feels like it loads the page as a whole instead of in bits and pieces.

Feeling like giving it a try? You can download Google Chrome here.

  • Faster? That makes it the best? Huh. Firefox is my choice because, as a developer, it has many plugins that help with debugging and working with web applications and AJAX.

I'm aware it doesn't offer the same plugin support as Firefox. I understand that if you need to use plugins, Chrome is not going to be for you but for people who just need a basic, minimal fast web browser then it is just the ticket.

Why would you want to go to your homepage to search when you can search right from the address box??

I DONT THINK THAT GOOGLE CHROME 2 IS THE BEST, I HEARD THE NEWS AND HEARD THAT SAFARI IS THE FASTEST BROWSER! I COULDN'T BELIEVE THAT. ANYWAY I THINK THAT ALL 4 BROWSERS I HAVE (INTERNET EXPLORER, MOZILLA FIREFOX, GOOGLE CHROME AND SAFARI) ARE ALL THE SAME!!! JUST THE DESIGN IS DIFFERENT. MAYBE THEY ARE DONE BY THE SAME DEVELOPER BUT THEY DON'T SAY THAT. I HAVE MORE THAN 10 YEARS USING COMPUTERS SO I THINK I FOUND THE ANSWER. ALL THE SAME AND WE "DREAM" THAT THIS OR THAT BROWSER IS BETTER. THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME OPTIONS, THE SAME SPEED, THEY OPEN THE SAME SITES, THEY DO THE SAME THINGS. I THINK THAT EVEN THE PLUG-INS ARE A JOKE JUST TO MAKE PUBLICITY. ANYWAY MY DEFAULT BROWSER IS SAFARI. HOPE YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT I MEANT.
