Intel's Q8200 and E5200 by the end of August
As I already wrote about, Intel will introduce new cpus on August 10th, the Q9650, Q9400, E8600 and E7300.
Now, I’ve read about Intel introducing Core 2 Q8200 (2.33 GHz, FSB 1333Mhz, 4 Mb of L2 cache, 45nm), a Pentium Dual Core E5200 (2.5 GHz, FSB 800Mhz, 2 Mb of L2 cache, 45nm) and quite surprisingly a Celeron 450 single core (2.2 GHz, FSB 800Mhz, 512 Kb deof L2 cache), despite the fact that there has been a dual-core Celeron E1200, for the last 6 months.
What’s really odd is the low speed of the Q8200. According to Intel’s roadmaps that has been published on the web so far, it’s supposed to replace the Q6600 (2.4 GHz, FSB 1066Mhz, 8 Mb of L2 cache, 65nm) which have twice as much L2 cache and a slightly lower price. Sure, the Q6600 does not benefit from the Penryn architecture and is still produced in 65nm, so it will be interesting to see the comparaison.
The E5200 should be sold around $80, while the Q8200 should be in the low $200’s. While the Q8200 will have a 7X multiplier (333 x 7 (2.33GHz)), the E5200 will be way more interesting, with a 12.5X multiplier (200 x 12.5(2.5GHz)). Various reviews on the web indicates that it’s at least as good as other Wolfdale cores in the overclocking departement, which is pretty much incredible!
Considering it’s price and high multiplier, this chip will be a favorite among overclockers. I mean, you only need a 320Mhz FSB to reach 4GHz! I think I will give it a try in my own computer, my E6300 (@ 2.8Ghz, crappy stepping) is due to be replaced soon and with the low price and overclocking possible, it might just be the chip I want.
The return to school is looking better everyday! Price cuts from Intel, then from AMD and now a killer overclocking chip for $80?! As Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear would say: Sweeeeeet!
