Thats fine. I was just highlighting the words to see them. Also ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
  • Devin
That was really wierd the website was just all black.
  • Mathieu
    @Devin, Yeah, sorry about that, doing some coding tweaks to speed up the website, made a mistake in the process ^^;

    Im looking at this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item...
It just came out and I was wondering if the 4890 can take advantage of 2gb if I only play at 1680x1050. Also does aa and af use that memory or doesthat mainly depend on the vpu?
  • Mathieu
@Devin, the 4890 can take advantage of 2GB in certain games/situations.

As for you, 2GB of VRAM is overkill for gaming at 1680x1050, 1GB would be your sweet spot.

Yes, af and aa do use extra VRAM, quite a lot actually.

2GB is particularly good for playing GTA, Crysis and other very demanding games at 1920x1080 or 2560 x 1600 with aa/af.
  • Devin
@Mathieu, thanks for the VERY quick response. Which would you get considering my res: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item...
    OR
the asus 4890 with the non-reference cooler
  • Mathieu
@Devin, I tend to recommend the XFX model due to its price ($195 right now with free shipping) and its double lifetime warranty, for you and the buyer if you sell it. The warranty also covers overclocking and changing the cooler, a big plus for many.

Also a big plus is that it exhausts the hot air OUTSIDE of the case. Here's a link to it:

The Sapphire is overpriced in my opinion, not worth $250 for simply some overclock and a so-so cooler.

Both the sapphire and the ASUS cards exhausts some air inside the case, which is very bad for the rest of your system and overclocking as the 4890 produces quite a lot of heat, which is to be expected from a high-end video card.
