I’ve chose to share with you pictures of the upcoming R700, which will be sold under the name of Radeon HD 4870 X2. Thanks to Chiphell for the pictures.

This card, equipped with 2 RV770 gpus uses the same concept that was used on the Radeon HD 3870 X2, which is a PCI Express PLX switch that allows P2P transfers and prevents chipset transfers. So far, it looks more recent than the one used up to now(on the HD 3870 X2) and hopefully it will support PCI-E 2.0.

It will require a 8 pins and a 6 pins connectors just like the Geforce 9800 GX2. On both sides of the PCB there are 16 Qimonda GDDR5 chips for a total of 1GB video memory. I know very little about the specs of this card yet, apart that it features a black PCB, which is lovely! It should be released at the end of August, just in time for the back to school specials!

I think it looks sexy, I can’t wait to see the performance!
