If there’s one thing that I have learned about blogging, it’s that your readers are the king. You can have the best content in the world, but what’s the point if no one reads it?

It’s with that in mind that I started to work on improvements for Hardware Revolution to make your experience better. I’m done for now and I’d like to take some time to share with you what I’ve done.

Hardware Revolution is now ad free

That’s right. No more ads on the sidebar, on the bottom of posts/pages nor in the RSS feed and e-mails.

Quite frankly, I wasn’t making enough money out of advertising to make it worth it. I rather keep the website/RSS/E-mail free of clutter.

Re-Tweet, Thumb it up! and Save this page buttons

After the title on every post and page, you will see three buttons:

  1. The “Re-Tweet button” ,which allows you to share the post that you’re reading with your Twitter followers. To use it, you need a Twitter account. If you haven’t joined Twitter yet, give it a try!
  2. The “Thumb it up!” button, which allows to approve of the post, give it more weight on StumbleUpon and save it in your favorites at the same time. This one requires a StumbleUpon account. If you haven’t tried StumbleUpon yet, do it now, you’ll love it, it’s great to find useful content.
  3. Finally, the “Save this page” button, which allows you to save a page on the popular bookmark website Delicious for future reference. The advantage of using Delicious over your browser bookmarks is that you can access your bookmarks from any computer with a Delicious account.

Moved the “Previous and Next post” links at the end of each post

Instead of being at the end of the post page, after the comments, the “Previous and Next post” links are now directly at the end of each post, where they will be more useful in my opinion.

Modified the ‘What’s Next?” section at the end of posts and pages

I integrated the related posts on the right, while leaving links to comment and to a few useful pages on the left, under the four buttons to subscribe to Hardware Revolution. I believe that it will make navigation at the end of each post/page much more simple for you.

Moved up the date for posts on the main page

The date that the post was published is now sitting on top of the title of each post on the mainpage. It’s a small change, but it’s more useful that way I believe.

Added “Last updated” date on pages

This will prove particularity useful for Computer Systems, as you’ll know right away when was the last time that they were updated.

Conclusion

That’s it for the changes that I’ve done. I hope that this will improve your experience on Hardware Revolution and that I helped make you feel like a king a little more hahaha.

I actually didn't mind the ads.

The only recommendation I would make is to add a "beginners corner" or something. You could have a tab with very basic concepts. I know this isn't the nature of your blog, but it may help you build your reader base. You could grow your own tech enthusiasts.

If your more seasoned readers don't want to look at it, they don't have to.
