The Best Prebuilt Budget Gaming PCs?

By that, I mean the prebuilt Gaming PCs that offer the best performance at prices from $420 to $800.

Why write this article?

How much time do you have to research the best computer?

Many of us don’t have much time to read, or the knowledge to understand, detailed computer specifications nor reviews and just want to know:
What’s the best budget PC for my needs?

I’m here to help you with this article. I believe that you deserve the computer that is the best for your needs. That way, your computer is working for you and not the other way around. This allows you to focus your full potential on realizing what you want, without being limited by your computer.

With 19 years of experience with computer hardware, researching, always up-to-date research with the newest parts, performance and prices, I know what matters in a computer.
See my About page for more information on me, Mathieu Bourgie, and this website, Hardware Revolution

I recommend the computers that offer the best performance at a given price, without sacrificing reliability of course.

Alternatives recommendations:

I also sometimes suggest alternative recommendations, with clear explanations as to why they are interesting alternatives.

About the HP Z400

For gamers:
Thanks to the GeForce GTX 1060 6GB, gaming at 1920 x 1080 (1080p/Full HD) is not a problem, although you may have to turn down graphic settings down a notch in the most demanding games.

The CPU is based on an older architecture and has relatively low frequencies compared to modern parts: Gaming performance is a bit lower than if you had a more modern CPU, but when it comes to gaming performance, it’s still mostly affected by the good graphic card.

For Creative Pros:
For the price, this is potent workstation. You get an Intel Xeon X5650 6-Core / 12 threads 2.66-3.06GHz CPU, capable of handling photo, video and 3D editing. Sure, it is based on an older architecture and has relatively low frequencies compared to modern parts, so single-threaded performance suffers, but multi-threaded performance is excellent for the price.

16GB of RAM is enough for a lot of workloads. You get a combo of a 128GB SSD for fast loading and a responsive PC, along with a 1TB hard drive for storage.

With a 6GB GeForce GTX 1060, you get GPU acceleration in Adobe and other apps.

Overall, a solid deal for the price

Pros:

  1. Lowest cost for a prebuilt PC with a good dedicated graphic card and older but still good CPU
  2. GeForce GTX 1060 6GB graphic card
  3. Older, but still potent CPU: Intel Xeon X5650 6-Core / 12 threads 2.66-3.06GHz
  4. 16GB of DDR3 RAM
  5. RAM can be upgraded
  6. 128GB SSD (Solid State Drive) High Performance storage
  7. 1TB 7200rpm hard drive storage capacity
  8. Windows 10
  9. DVD drive

Cons:

  1. The CPU is based on an older architecture and has relatively low frequencies compared to modern parts.
  2. Keyboard and mouse aren’t included
  3. No USB Type-C
  4. No WiFi
  5. No Bluetooth
  6. No Card Reader

For gamers: Good for 1080p: Ryzen 5 2400G + Radeon RX 580

500GB SSD only: – Click here to see the price on Amazon
240GB SSD + 1TB HDD: – Click here to see the price on Amazon
240GB SSD + 1TB HDD: – $789.99 at B&H (Worldwide Shipping)

I recommend two similar models, the first and less expensive one with a 500GB SSD only and the other with a combo of a 240GB SSD + 1TB hard drive.

Do note that the 500GB SSD only model is smaller, but is limited to 2 RAM slots.

For gamers:
Compared to the model above, you get both a better CPU, the 6-core Ryzen 5 2600 and a significantly more powerful graphic card, the GeForce GTX 1660 6GB.

For Creative Pros:
Compared to the HP Z400, you get a CPU that is based on a much more modern CPU architecture, so despite having less threads, it still offers higher multi-threaded performance, not to mention significantly higher single-threaded performance.

The higher-end graphic card won’t make a difference for most users, unless you run programs that run on graphic cards.

8GB of RAM will quickly prove limiting for video editing though, so consider upgrading to 16GB or 32GB of RAM.

Pros:

  1. Great mid-range dedicated video card: GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
  2. Good mid-range level CPU for gaming performance: Intel Core i5-8400 Six-Core / 6 threads 2.8-4.0GHz
  3. 240 or 500GB High-Performance SSD Storage
  4. 2nd model only: 1TB hard drive
  5. 802.11ac WiFi 5
  6. USB Wired Keyboard and mouse are included

Cons:

  1. Only 8GB of RAM: Consider adding some
  2. No Card Reader
  3. No DVD drive
  4. No Bluetooth
  5. No USB Type-C

CyberpowerPC Gamer Xtreme VR GXiVR8060A7

For gamers:
Compared to the model above, you get a CPU that offers better gaming performance, the Intel Core i5-9400F.

Other than that, specifications are similar, with a GeForce GTX 1660 6GB, 8GB of RAM, a 120GB SSD + 1TB hard dirve.

For Creative Pros:
See the model above or below.

Other, less expensive models? Not as reliable!
Sure, there are other prebuilt models on Amazon, with the same CPU/GPU configuration, but they aren’t as reliable. You better pay a little more and get a reliable PC with good WiFi and no problems.

Pros:

  1. Outstanding value, with a great CPU and video card at this price
  2. Great CPU: Intel Core i5-9400F Six Core / Six threads 2.9-4.1GHz
  3. Great video card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 6GB
  4. 8GB of DDR4 RAM
  5. 120GB SSD (Solid State Drive) High Performance storage

  8. 1 x DVI, 1 x DisplayPort, 1 x HDMI
  9. 802.11ac WiFI USB Adapter
  10. Windows 10
  11. Keyboard and mouse are included

For gamers:
See the model above.

For Creative Pros:
This PC features a more powerful CPU, the AMD Ryzen 7 2700, a 8 cores / 16 threads CPU that runs at 3.2-4.1GHz.

Graphic card wise, you get a Radeon RX 580, with 4GB of dedicated RAM. This graphic card will accelerate photo and video editing with Adobe and other apps.

You also get higher performance storage, with a 128GB SSD, which will help your program and heavy projects load faster, combined with a 1TB hard drive for storage. Of course, you can always add storage drives.

RAM wise, you get 16GB, which is enough for a lot of workloads. Otherwise, adding RAM is simple and most people can do it themselves.

Pros:

  1. Outstanding value, with a great CPU and graphic card at this price
  2. Great CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700 8 Core / 16 threads 3.2-4.1GHz
